Dr. Madhushree Das holds a Master degree in Geography with specialization in Social Geography from Gauhati University. She completed her Masters and M.Phil. in tribal geography in 1997 and 1999 securing first position in first class and Ph.D. in Tribal Geography in 2009 on the Topic “Education, Occupation, and Social Change towards a Social Geography of Tribal Women in Assam” from Gauhati University. She joined Gauhati University in 2010, after serving as an Assistant Professor in Cotton College for more than 11 years. She was among the two selected from India to participate in Commonwealth Geographical Bureau Workshop on Human Consequences on Climate Change in University of Colombo, 2005. She received International Geographical travel grant award thrice to present her research in Durban (South Africa), Cologne (Germany), Szeged (Hungary), and Kyoto (Japan). She has presented her research in Boston, USA in 2017. She has also initiated academic collaboration with Royal Geographical society, London and has visited University of Sydney, New South Wales and Canberra in Australia as part of Gauhati University team in connection with academic linkages and opening of G.U Alumni chapter in Australia. She is a Professor and HoD in Geography at Gauhati University and ex General Secretary (elect) of North East India Geographical Society (2016-2018). She is the Joint Secretary of SSRC, India. Besides various academic bodies of the country, she is the court member of Gauhati University and Cotton University and presently the Dean Faculty of Science, Gauhati University,
Awards and Honours:
✦ Academic Gold Medal for securing 1st class 1st position in MA Geography ✦ Bhubeneshwari Memorial Gold Medal for standing 1st in MA degree in all subjects in Arts in, 1997 ✦ Dipali Borthakur Memorial Award from North East India Geographical Society (NEIGS) for standing 1st MA / MSc Examination in Geography, in the North East India. ✦ National Talent Search Examination, Govt of Assam, India, 1989, Commonwealth Award,2005.
Teaching & Research:
Dr Madhushree Das is a Social and Cultural Geographer and works in the field of gender and tribal geography. She has authored 3 books and published more than 50 research papers in national and International journals. She is presently supervising 8 PhD scholars. Under her supervision seven scholars have got their Ph.D Degrees and seven more have got their M.Phil degrees. She has been teaching post graduate students since the last 22 years
